DDSGN 220 Assignment #14

Our online assignment had us create an online HTML based newsletter for The Spud Goodman Show. We used tables in Adobe Dreamweaver to create our layout, and linked our site using true source links to an online server.

Again I had forgotten a lot of simple Dreamweaver skills, so the fact that it was an online lecture really saved my butt. I aimed to just finish the assignment and to get everything working, so I don't necessarily expect full points as I didn't do anything outstanding. I did however, learn more technical HTML skills.

Using tables, as well as some basic tags for alignment and colors, I created a layout similar to our teacher's example. The most technical (and frustrating) part however was getting the links to work. After connecting and hosting files on an online remote server provided by the class, We had to set and change the file paths from local to remote.

DDSGN 220 Assignment #13

This week we created websites using the content management system, Wordpress.

A screencap of the home page

My site (https://jkim220.wordpress.com), contains numerous photos of things that I personally find inspiring and beautiful. Pictures of the ocean, marine life, and the sky. I aimed to create a simple site that had large thumbnails of high resolution images that were sorted by page.

The technical skills used to create the site weren't too complicated, but I learned some new things about Wordpress itself. The interface and navigating the actual content editor took some getting used to, but all of the options were there. Creating new pages, themes, and posts were easy enough to do once you found the right buttons. From there, the webpage / post editor was similar to blogger, with simple video/image upload and text options.

I feel like I did okay on the assignment. Nothing too impressive or flashy, but I met the criteria and explored / navigated Wordpress well enough.

DDSGN 220 Assignment #9

This assignment was another comfort one. We had to create a simple interactive clipping animation in Adobe Edge Animate, a program that we used frequently in the 210 class. Using the word water, I created a thematic text animation that can be played forward and backwards upon clicking the buttons (wet/dry)

I just used a clipping mask in photoshop and some {stop} {play} actions in Edge Animate.

DDSGN 220 Assignment #8

Our assignment for this week was just to create a piece of art using a pen tablet in either Photoshop or Illustrator. I was pretty happy for this assignment, as it was in my comfort zone (I have been using a tablet at home beforehand).

Normally I use the pen tool in Illustrator, but decided to freehand everything in Photoshop. The assignment said not to use plain color fills, but as I started drawing, I couldn't help but slowly realize that I was using them anyway. I tried to alleviate the problem by using some cell shading techniques, but I'm not that great at it.
Who the hell do you think I am?

DDSGN 220 Assignment #7

We created an online photo gallery via Galleria, a javascript script that creates really cool online slideshows. This assignment was different than the others, as we had to dive into some javascript code. Dreamweaver is one of my weakest programs, so staring down a bunch of div tags and brackets was intimidating at first, but I slowly began to understand it better

Here is the Online Gallery

DDSGN 220 Assignment #6

For this assignment, we used Adobe After Effects to create a 2.5D  gallery slideshow effect. By putting images on a 3D ground plane and by using lighting, I tried to create the illusion of depth. I included frames on my photo to make the images stand out more from both each other and the dull background.
